Michael Waddell is NWTF's new spokesman
It was brought to my attention that Michael will be the new spokesman for the NWTF. He will be hosting turkey call tv and emceeing the Nationals next year. I think this will be a great move for our sport. What does everyone else think?

The TV thing will be the other end of the spectrum from Rob Keck, that is for sure, and in my opinion, a great improvement.
He think he will do a great job. |

I disagree previous bloggers, also with the NWTF board. M. Waddell does not demonstrate intellectual ability. He certainly does not have the professional turkey caller status as others in the turkey calling sport, to hold a position as emcee at the Grand National Calling Contest, State, or local contest. WaddellÂ’s does not reflects anything positive for the sport of hunting or as host of Turkey Call TV.:toiletpaper2:

Michael Waddell is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I always felt like I was bothering Keck when in casual conversation. We need someone who will be a good spokesperson for NWTF... I'm glad Michael is it!!!

Well, I guess that I finally found someone that has something bad to say about Michael Waddell. When you are a spoksman for something it is different than being the CEO, President of a company Etc. He was given that passition because of his repatation in the industry as a persinality. He will bring a few more people in to watch the contest and the T.V. show that really wasn't that good. That's all they are looking at.

Quote:Originally posted by BrokenWing2 I disagree with your post. He is a pretty accomplished caller, and has won or placed in a couple Grand National divisions in the past. Is he on the level of some of the guys today, no, but is a pretty good caller. this was how he met Jordan and got where he is today. Correct me if i am wrong, but i belive he holds multiple Georgia State Championships. He has also had the top TV show on for the last couple years, and is one of, if not the most recognized, faces in the hunting industry. It's all PR, and i personally cannot think of a better person to do the job he has been assigned. As bad as it sounds, there are alot of people who would not watch the show when it was on because of Keck, that will now tune in every week just because Waddell is the host. The NWTF felt they needed to go in a new direction, and that is what they did. They are trying to appeal to a new crowd, and that's they have accomplished. I can guarantee you that the attendance will be up for the contests in Nashville simply because he will be MC. It should be noted that i do not think that this guy is the chosen one, or the messiah of turkey hunting that has been sent to deliver us and the NWTF from all evil. I don't have waddell posters on my wall, or a bag of realtree jerky in my vest because i think it will help me kill more turkeys and deer. But for what they wanted, he is a perfect fit. Here is an interesting question that will raise some debate. For those who do not think he was the best fit for this job, who would have been your choice? |

I think that the answer to this is pretty simple...Michael Wadell is the most recognizable face on the tv side of the hunting industry today...I dont really think anyone can argue that. Love him or hate him, his energy, camera presence, and down-to-earth nature are entertaining. His show, RT Roadtrips, now has 20 other shows trying to copy it. People are on camera trying to talk like Michael Waddell.
The NWTF simply went out and got televised outdoor's real rockstar. (sorry Ted Nugent). I dont know Michael Waddell and if I did, I dont know if I'd care for him or not, but I do respect his originality. He started out as a turkey caller (we all can respect that), and did a lot of work behind the camera. He wasnt given anything, but the cream rose to the top. Realtree didnt go get a star and make him a hunter, they got a hunter and made him a star. |

I can tell you this much if Michael Waddell called now days as much as some of the guys on this forum he would have won probably every major contest by now more than once!! He was a very good caller back then. I remeber the first time I called against him it was in the GNCC intermediat in Memphis I beleive 1994. He was third and I was forth. Nobody new his name, but by the end of the convention he had a crowd around him listening to his every word. He was third nobody even cared that a guy named Russel Baldwin was first and Mark Scroggins was second. I tell you what guys this calling stuff is fun I love it but if I got an opportunity to work for Realtree the way Michael did I wouldn't want or need to call any more either.
I beleive he proved his calling ability as much as he needed to. |

Wow, this has been a very interesting post. I'm looking forward to seeing what the future hold for the NWTF, and the future of Waddell. Honestly, he is a great guy-as far as I know.

I think it will be great for the NWTF, and hopefully it will atract more people and support for the NWTF that before never was interested in turkeys and turkey hunting.

Well I guess I will step out on the limb with this one but what is the difference what calling contests Michael has one or even competed in. There is a reason he is where he is at and it has nothing to do with his championships. Bill Jordan and every other hunting company obviously saw the same thing in Michael as the NWTF did. EGO!!! That s what I said! He has none. His accomplishments come from truley just being himself and a good man. Calling contests are great for some and I wish I had the same as many of you on that stage. But I can honestly say I would rather have someone shake my hand for the person I am than the contests I've won.
Yours truley Matt Gillaspy Knight & Hale Game Calls |
